Jackson Hunt is 20 years old and is in his second year at Oberlin Conservatory of Music where he studies composition with Dr. Jesse Jones and piano performance with Dr. Alvin Chow. Jackson began playing the piano at age 3, and he started taking lessons at age 4. He began composing at age 5, and he began lessons with Robert Schultz at age 10. He also started piano lessons with his most recent teacher, Steinway Artist Yeeha Chiu, at that age. He has written numerous works, including much chamber and solo piano music, as well as some orchestral, electronic, and choral music. Some of his most recent works include Reflections for oboe, bassoon, glockenspiel, viola, and double bass; Variations on a Twelve-Tone Row for clarinet, bass, and piano; and Etudes for Chimes and Trombone. Jackson has performed several times in the lobby of Heinz Hall in Pittsburgh as well as in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He has also performed in numerous chamber ensembles and, before going to Oberlin Conservatory, was a member of the Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania Jackson has won many awards for both composition and piano, including 1st prize in the 2022 PMTA Keystone Composition Competition, 3rd prize in the 2021 National MTNA Senior Composition Competition, 1st prize in the 2022 Opus National Competition for piano, and 2nd prize in the 2021 Pennsylvania MTNA Senior Piano Competition.
